The Guardian Plus launched in 2014 as a response to a gap we kept noticing: stories that mattered to people in England — about housing, health, the environment, the way public services were changing — weren't getting the sustained attention they deserved. The daily news cycle moved on. The underlying problems didn't.
We're a small editorial team. We don't have a print edition, a television channel, or a parent company with other priorities. What we have is a commitment to following stories for as long as they take to tell properly — which sometimes means returning to the same subject over months or years.
Naomi Ashford leads our social affairs coverage, with a particular focus on housing, health and inequality. She spent six years at a national broadsheet before joining the Guardian Plus at its founding.
Tom Ellery covers the environment and climate, with an emphasis on how national and global trends play out in specific English communities. He has reported from flood-affected areas across the Midlands and the north for the past four years.
Priya Menon is our politics correspondent. She came to journalism from a background in political research and brings an analytical rigour to her reporting that we think sets it apart.
